Studio Kura
In October 2025, I participated in a month long artist residency at Studio Kura in Itoshima, Japan. Studio Kura is a multidisciplinary artist run space that organizes exhibitions and hosts artists from around the world. Located about 40 minutes from Fukuoka city, Itoshima feels much more calm with its rural landscape.
When I arrived, one of the first things I noticed about Itoshima was how quiet it is. I spent my first day in the small coastal city walking through the crop fields and residential housing picturing how the locals would spend their time here.

As someone who is used to a faster paced city life, Itoshima was a nice change of environment. Life seemed much simpler and slowed down. My mind felt clearer with less distractions. But maybe that's just what happens when you're away from home and all the responsibilities. Nevertheless, here I was able to take a moment of pause and find the quietness and reflection that bring meaning into my life and work.

“The Shape of Quiet” is a series that explores solitude, reflection, and the subtle beauty of everyday life. In observing the quietness in daily life empty spaces emerge, both physical and metaphorical, creating a gentle balance between what is seen and what is felt. “The Shape of Quiet” invites the viewer to pause and discover the quiet clarity that comes from simply existing.
